Nestled near the Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Hong Son Province, Ban Rak Thai is a picturesque Yunnanese Chinese village surrounded by misty mountains, tea plantations, and a peaceful lake that looks more like southern China than Thailand.
The journey itself is part of the adventure. From Chiang Mai, travellers follow the famous Route 1095 through Pai and Mae Hong Son, passing more than 1,800 winding curves and some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.

Visitors can sip locally grown tea beside the lake, stay in traditional Chinese-style guesthouses, sample delicious Yunnan cuisine, and wake up to cool mountain air and morning mist drifting across the water.
Despite being one of Thailand’s favourite domestic destinations, Ban Rak Thai remains surprisingly unknown among many international visitors. That is exactly what makes it so special.
